Flymasters 2013 KiteLandBoard Event by Kite-Freaks
Last weekend a big Kite Landboarding event took place in the Netherlands, organised by Flysurfer Kiteboarding, MBS Mountainboards & Kite-Freaks. The goal was to put a professional KLB event on the Dutch calendar where both riders and interested people in the kite landboarding sport, could visit and join. Clinics were held, a professional freestyle & race event took place and riders from all over Europe gathered to compete on a superb spot, which was packed with a slider and some great ramps.
The venue was the beach of Ijmuiderslag on the North Sea coast, about 20 kilometers from Amsterdam. A lot of European Flysurfer KLB teamriders already said to come to this event, since a lot were teased by the great pre-event teasing with photos of ramps, sliders, style of competition and so on. Which in the end resulted in 21 competitors for the freestyle and 29 competitors for the race discipline. Giving a great atmosphere and riding level for the riders as well as to the public. Extensive coverage from the media (video & photo), showed that kite landboarding is a serious sport and is becoming professional and getting more and more fans.
With very mellow temperatures for mid October, which gave a pleasant atmosphere on the beach, combined with good wind conditions on both days the whole “climate” of this well-organized event was superb.
On Saturday the race eliminations were done with 10-15 knots winds. Flysurfer teamrider Yusca Balogh showed to be sharp and fast, winning the final with a 100m lead over the next finisher!
On Sunday a complete single-eliminiation took place as well as a Best-Trick competition in 15-20 knots of wind, pushing the riders to their maximum potential.
The freestyle judging was done by the riders. The jury consists of the riders who give their nr.1 and nr.2 ranking to the race director, who then made up the result of the heat and announced which 2 riders advanced to the next round.
Heats were 7 minutes each, with a 3 minute transition time. Which pleased Flysurfer teamriders Emmanuel Norman and Laurent Guyot, who had sufficient time to present their best moves and tricks. Emmanuel prevailed over its competitors and won the 1st place in the freestyle contest, showing impressive jumps and hangtime on his Flysurfer Speed3 CE 15m DLX. Laurent Guyot put up a great show on both days, riding both the new Flysurfer Cronix and performing solid kiteloops variations on land as well as some great oldschool/airstyle with his Flysurfer Speed3 CE kites.
