World premiere – EnerKite airborne wind energy converter at the Husum WindEnergy Fair 2012

The EnerKite GmbH will be at the Husum Wind Energy Fair from September 18^th – 22^nd 2012 and will be presenting the technology of harnessing strong and steady winds at higher altitudes to the public for the very first time.

As a longtime partner of EnerKite GmbH,  Flysurfer Kiteboarding  is supporting the project EnerKite with specially developed Kites.

The mobile 30kW EnerKíte airborne wind energy converter maneuvers a 15 m2 large Wing (Kite) up into altitudes of 200m – above the tips of newly repowered 3 MW turbines. The automated flight modes and energy generation will be demonstrated. The  force of the wind, acting on a kite which is flying transversely to the wind, is converted  into electrical energy by a cyclically extending tether rope.

In the future the EnerKites can make a substantial contribution to the regenerative energy supply. An autonomous operation including launch and landing and the most cost-effective solution of the use of wind energy are the goals of a sophisticated development that has successfully begun with the 30kW demonstration plant.

Further milestones are a small wind power plant with scalable technology for the decentralized energy supply at grid parity to end-user in 2014 and a plant of the MW-class system with grid parity in 2017.

To realize these goals, EnerKite is promoting at the exhibition in Husum to seek financial and political support.
