lolo’s report from Westward Ho
29.Oct.2012:Last week the finals of the UK Championship took place in Westward Ho, a very prominent spot for surfing, kitesurfing and of course kite landboarding!
We arrived there on Thursday to practice prior to the competition. Emmanuel was already kiting on the beach with his Speed3 CE 15m, i was able to recognize him and his crazy handle passes at 3m in the air. I felt that it was going to be a sick session, but before I had been taking out my kites i took some time to speak with UK Flysurfer dealer & team manager «Tom Beaton». Then it was about time to train, and do some pix and video shooting. The sky was blue and the wind was about 15 knots, so I decided to take my 12m speed3 CE to have some fun.
)
Westward Ho beach is a huuuge spot, you can easily do 10 tricks in one length and the sand is very good for kitelandboarding. Every rider was riding his best, i could see big boards off, some crazy unhooked by Emmanuel (dangle pass), it was such a good session… I trained on my new unhooked tricks, like the «shifty3», and it was a very good feeling doing it with the Speed3 12m, this kite has a very good pop, which is important for unhooked trick! Lewis Wilby joined us at the end of the session and he shredded the spot …it was trick festival : KL3, slim chance, KGB… really nice to see those tricks on land!
Friday was no wind at all, but it was sunny so we had some nice chilling times on the beach. It was good to relax the day after the competition.
Saturday was the day of the finals. We had a cross-shore low wind all day long, about 6 to 12 knots, but the wind was steady so it was good for « unhooked » with the Speed3 15m. Emmanuel and I did a pretty nice heat together during the qualifications and landed some cool trix in light wind! LEI riders were not able do so many tricks, only Flysurfer riders were having good times on the spot…
Flysurfer Kites are awesome in light wind conditions, I landed all my unhooked trix. I simply love these kites!
The wind died completly just before the finals, so unfortunetly we didn’t run the final heat. The BKSA race director decided to give an equal result on this final:
Results:
1st Emmanuel Norman (Flysurfer team rider)
1st Laurent Guyot (lolo BSD, Flysurfer team rider)
1st Ash Garwood
The prize giving took place on saturday night in a super nice pub/restaurant in front of the sea, we enjoyed a fantastic dinner there. Thanks to the BKSA for organizing it!

For the first time in my life I won a national title, I was really happy to receive my BKSA 2012 Pro Freestyle KLB Champion’s title…
BKSA 2012 Pro KLB Freestyle :
1st Laurent Guyot (lolo BSD)
2nd Ash Garwood (with Flysurfer kites)
3rd Abe Alzouman (with Flysurfer kites)
BKSA 2012 AM KLB Freestyle :
1st Chris Walker
2nd Will Rose
3rd Carl Kirton
I had a very good time during this UK Championship. There are some very nice guys here in the UK, very good riders with mad skillz, and for sure the best KLB riders and spots!
Huge thanks to the BKSA team, they did a very good job organizing this event and others throughout the year. Well done guys, you’re awesome! And to finish, BIG BIG thanks to Flysurfer for making my dreams become reality!
See you all in the white French Alps this winter, I will be there competing in the World Snowkite Masters from 5th to 19th January 2013
«Ride Hard & Fly High, lolo BSD».
