Speed4 8.0m² & 10.0m²

// Speed4 8.0m² & 10.0m²

It has been a long wait for the first official sign that a new Speed is coming and now it is finally here. We are pleased and proud to present to you the next step or rather, jump, in Flysurfer development: the Speed4 – in sizes 8.0 and 10.0m²!

First things first: The Speed4 in 8.0 and 10.0m² are unbelievably versatile. Despite the enormous performance potential, the Speed4 is still suitable for beginners in the lower wind ranges but still a true air-time machine in the upper wind range.

The demand for other (bigger) sizes of the Speed4 is naturally justifiable. Still, it is not so simple to top an extraordinary product like the Speed3. So we still need some time – and until then the Speed3 Colored Edition (CE) from 12.0m² upwards remain within the Speed series. However, we are certain that 2013 will be the release year for the additional Speed4 sizes (12.0/15.0/18.0/21.0m²).

Unequaled performance – at your demand

Without exaggeration: The Speed4 is the best performing kite that we have ever built. Whether in low end, turningspeed, relaunch, jumping characteristics or depower… Almost everywhere we have been able to set new limits. Yet it’s performance is more accessible than ever – for every rider. It starts when you pull up the Speed4: The kite inflates incredibly fast and provides security from the first moment onwards. Whether fully powered up or fully depowered, a Speed4 stays stable in the sky. And thanks to the balanced handling not only your jumps are much easier, but also their landings.

In the air

There is so much that cannot be put into words, but instead has to be experienced. The Speed4 flying feeling is one of those things. More direct and faster turning performance, a glide ratio that you only experience with Speeds, the now extremely short depower throw, the lift, the control…We needed six months just for the fine-tuning the Speed4 in order to reach this result: It just feels plain great to fly a Speed4.

Simplicity

Our vision is not only to improve our kites, but to further shape the sport of kiting. What has remained is a simple and effective system. Lowest possible weight, smallest pack dimensions, quickest setup and stow-away and enormous durability … The Speed4 is more effective, lighter and more compact than anything else we have ever built. We were even able to achieve a bridle that is almost one-third lighter and remove an entire bridle row. This not only makes kiting easier, but results in even better performance.

Innovation

The Speed4 is a completely new development, based on a concept: A defined flex performance of the kite-profile. We achieved this with a new canopy construction and an extremely simplified bridle. Depowered, a reflexed trailing edge is formed with especially low lift and high stability. By pulling the bar down, the profiles bends and an enormous lift increase is created. This technology makes it possible to use a lighter construction with less drag, as well as creating highly effective depower and high stability while simultaneously maintaining short bar travel. The new construction is supplemented by a reinforcement of the leading edge for maximum flight stability in gusting winds and yet again-improved aerodynamics. The result is a kite that not only brings all the advantages of the Speed3 to the next level, but also steps up it’s freestyle performance.

Technical renewals:

Next to established technologies and features of the past like – Little Connection Lines, Automatic Water/Dirt Drainage System, Triple Depower, etc. – we introduce the following technical features.

// Rigid Foil Technology by Gin

Reinforcement of the front leading edge profile for increased performance and stability.

// Smart Direct Airfoil

New flex-profile from extensive simulations for a shorter and more effective depower and quicker turning.

// Minimized bridle

Just three main levels (A,B & Z) and new connection points have created a much simpler line system, which is lighter and has less drag.

// Simplified mixer

Just one pulley per side makes for easiest trim tuning for everyone.

Supplementary information

The control bar for these small Speeds is the current Infinity 2.0 Bar in 50cm. The Infinity 2.0 Bar impresses with the easy and safe 2.0 Quick Release and it’s 100% untwisting function.

The new fabric colours of the Speed3 Coloured Edition not only impressed us, they impressed our customers as well. For that reason we will be sticking with these colors and color code system and will produce the Speed4 8.0m² in sunny yellow and the Speed4 10.0m² in cyanblue. The standard versions will remain red. Of course, the matching new Speed4 Bag is complimentary to round off the product range. The Deluxe Version with a classy gold logos and the standard version with a premium silver logos.

Speed4 Gear GuideWe are proud of our new Flysurfer gear guide, too. It is packed with illustrations, tips & tricks. And is available in four languages (German, English, French and Italian). A big thank you goes out to Peter Goldbach from boardway.org, who contributed substantially to the concept, realization and implementation. Each kitebag has two separate gear guides included – one for the kite and one for the bar.

Speed3 Coloured Edition

// Speed3 Coloured Edition

At Flysurfer we call the SPEED3 the “ultimate flying machine.” And for more than 2 years nothing about that has changed really. Whether it’s the 21.0m in light winds from about 6 knots onwards, or the 12.0m in strong winds up to 25 knots – performance, stability, depower are still the measure of all things… Pure fun!

How can you improve a viable and accepted product in the market?

If you know the philosophy of Flysurfer, then you know that “Flysurfer only brings a successor to its line-up, if it has significant improvements over its predecessor.” Since we are not ready to present a successor product to the SPEED3, we want to inspire our customers in the summer of 2012 with a facelift of our successful and popular high-performance kite… the Speed3 Coloured Edition!

What are the three differences to the current Speed3?

1. Colour coding for the first time in Deluxe sizes

Up to now, the Speed3 has a gold/black/white color combination in the light Deluxe cloth, for sizes 12.0m/15.0m/19.0m and the “Silver Arrow” design (in white) for the 21.0m.
Due to the demand and fashion trends towards more vibrant colours, we were able to produce more Deluxe cloth and use it for the first time in our Speed3 Coloured Edition.
The colors grass-green DLX (12.0), yellow DLX (15.0), cyan-blue DLX (19.0) and gold DLX (21.0) makes it easier to identify a kite size on the spot and provide a much more colorful appearance with Flysurfer kites.
By the way, the “old” Deluxe color combination is no longer the standard (As of; 15.05.2012).
The color coding in the standard cloth versions 12.0 (green)/15.0 (blue)/19.0 (red) remains the same.

2. The Infinity 2.0 Control Bar as the ultimate control bar

Sophisticated and technically up to date, that applies to the Infinity 2.0 Control Bar. Many features – such as our in-house developed quick release, that meets the tight requirements of the French safety norm, a special bearing design, ensuring 100% un-spinning easiness, a V-shaped eyelet to allow for easy depowering while steering, a chicken-stick instead of a chicken-dick for added durability in the snow and many more – but please convince yourself! From now on integrated as the standard control bar on the Speed3 “CE” and Unity.

3. An adapted “CE” Kitebag for more style and easier use on the spot

Functionally, tidy and in a timeless black and gold (deluxe) or black and silver (standard) colour combination. The new “CE” Speed3 Bag is the perfect packaging for this kite.

Whether you are a kiteboarder, snowkiter or kitelandboarder – all user groups appreciate the lift, the hang time, the incomparable feeling of flying and the butter soft landings with this kite. For old-school fans the Speed3 is a must-have. But especially freestylers can have their thrills with the 21.0m (light winds + flat water = more days of perfect kiting conditions) being able to learn many unhooked tricks easily and improve their level fast and significantly. Last but not least – the extreme upwind performance and the large depower-effect results in a huge wind range for each size, i.e a lot of passive safety, especially in gusty wind conditions, combined with light wind cruising joy and top results in the Kite Racing comps… a kite for “almost” everything!

So, the Speed3 is no longer just a problem solver for light winds – a lot of enthusiastic Flysurfer fans swear by this product and their number is growing day by day. The handling – even with size 21.0m – whether male or female is easy and simple for everyone. Adjustable bar pressure allows for individual tuning to personal preference. The easy reverse launch the kite brings in no time back up from the water and into the sky. And with the integrated Infinity 2.0 Control Bar, this results in a harmonious and colorful performance package…

Speed3 Coloured Edition – it‘s time to change!

The Deluxe Cloth Features (compared to Standard-Cloth)

  • flies in super low-wind conditions
  • better turning & better catching after a kite-loop
  • easy-to-use low-end performance
  • in general easier to fly

Speed3 Information

// Speed3 – The ultimate light wind weapon

// Performance Redefined

Until the Speed2, there has never been a kite that represented the measure of things in lightwind performance and hangtime for two years in a row. It was definitely not easy to top this milestone in kite development.

After a 12-month development period, the introduction of new construction software, many hours of overtime, more than three time as much testing input from all around the world, as well as the addition of Andreas Hanrieder to our development team, Flysurfer has succeeded in raising the bar of high performance kites yet again with the Speed3.

When it comes to depower, agility and stability, the development team surrounding Armin Harich has just set the benchmark higher!

// Flight Performance & Safety

Whether you are into racing, old-school freestyle, big-airs or light-wind cruising, the Speed3 sets a new benchmark and redefines performance and fun in all wind conditions. The Speed3 is distinguished by its legendary and unrivaled light-wind performance.

Depower within arms reach is very direct, easy and precise like no other kite in this class. Jumps have never been easier and lightwind kiting has never been that much fun with butter smooth landings and amazing hangtime…

// Safety

Stability, especially in strong or gusty winds, has grown to a level previously unknown in this kite class. The Triple Depower System gives the Speed3 its unbelievable wind range. Despite a high aspect ratio, the Speed3 flies like it’s nailed to the sky and won’t get unpredictable, even with more power. This provides additional safety, and helps with jumps. The safety function underwent a complete redesign, in order to cover the wider wind range. The tapered leading edge with four lines provides for excellent flagging-out of the Speed3 on the FLS Safety with an even better relaunch.

Wind Range (knots)

The Wind Range Chart is to be used as a point of reference. It is based on a rider who weighs around 75kg (165lbs.) Actual use will vary depending on your weight, skill level, conditions on the Water or Land, Board Size and skill level. When choosing the Kite size always use common sense and always choose a smaller size if you are not sure, especially when using the kite on land.

Limited Deluxe Edition

// Speed3 Limited Deluxe Edition

Its origins developed out of a facebook survey based on two photo shop variations in 2011, but due to the huge positive feedback, the new colors became reality within just a few months.

This was the beginning of the first Limited Deluxe Edition with neon green Deluxe material. A total of 200 kites sold out in just a few weeks. In January of 2012, we introduced the purple edition variation, limited to 150 kites.

These kites are available without any additional charge, but only as long as supplies last! That means – act quickly when we introduce a limited edition. To emphasize this special edition, the material used will be implemented ONLY in these kites, and will not be available for individual kites!

In the future, we will be producing individual smaller kite series more often, for example, the “Speed3 Italian Edition”, which will be available for our Italian fans beginning in February of 2012.
